1. Cell Formats

Lesson 1 of 11
Task 1 of 4
  1. Format the prices in B2:B6 as currency ($).

Lesson theory

A format changes only how a number looks. The value itself stays the same, and formulas keep calculating with it.

  • 0.00 — Number: a thousands separator and a set number of decimal places;
  • $ — Currency: $1,299.00;
  • % — Percent: 0.18 is shown as 18%;
  • Date — the number 46113 is shown as 4/1/2026. In Excel, a date is just a day number;
  • .0← / .00→ — remove or add a decimal place.

Select a range with the mouse and click a button on the toolbar above the grid.
