4. Conditional Formatting: Values

Lesson 4 of 11
Task 1 of 3
  1. Highlight sales over $100,000 in B2:B9.

Lesson theory

Conditional formatting highlights cells on its own: when the data changes, the highlighting changes with it.

  • Greater Than / Less Than / Between / Equal To — compare with a number (in Excel: Home › Conditional Formatting › Highlight Cells Rules);
  • Top 10 Items / Bottom 10 Items — the best or the worst values (in Excel: Home › Conditional Formatting › Top/Bottom Rules). The trainer shortens this to Top N, where you enter any number of items.

Select a range, click Conditional Formatting, choose a rule and a color. A sheet can have as many rules as you like. The trainer lists the rules directly instead of in submenus.

fx

Enter — commit · F2 — edit · F4 — $ in a reference · Ctrl+C/Ctrl+V — copy and paste · Ctrl+Z — undo

Esc or F6 — leave the sheet for the «Check» button · Shift+Tab in the first cell — back to the page
